Slump Glass Bottle Decorating Ideas

If you couldn’t resist that slumped glass bottle tray at the last craft fair or if you have an array of slumped glass bottles that you’ve created yourself, you may be wondering how to decorate these recycled beauties to enhance your home. Slumped glass bottles are melted in a kiln; one side of the bottle falls or ‘slumps’ into the curve as the glass melts with the bottle resting on its side. The shape of the concave slump lends itself to a distinctive serving tray for your next wine and cheese party, but you can also use slumped bottles to add color to your outdoor landscape.

Things You'll Need

24-gauge craft wire

Wire cutters

Plastic grapes

Raffia/ribbon

Scissors

Fishing line

4mm and 6mm beads, center drilled

Top drilled crystal prism

Decorative Slumped Glass Tray

Cut a 10-inch long strand of 24-gauge craft wire. Twist one end of the wire around the stem of a small bunch of plastic grapes.

Place the slumped glass bottle flat on a work surface. Rest the grapes along the neck, with the stem near the top rim of the bottle.

Wrap the wire attached to the grape stem around the neck of the slumped glass bottle. Hold the grapes in position as you wrap the wire.

Cut a 16-inch strand of complementary raffia or thin ribbon. Fit the center of the raffia strand beneath the neck of the bottle, directly over the wire.

Bring both sides of the raffia up over the bottle neck and cross the strands on the face of the bottle neck, beneath the grape stem. Pass both strands beneath the bottle neck, cross them and bring them back to the face of the bottle neck. Continue to cross the raffia until the wire is no longer visible. Tie the raffia in a knot or small bow at the grape stem. Cut any excess raffia or let the strands fall over the bottle neck.

Slumped Glass Bottle Garden Art

Cut a 30-inch long strand of 24-gauge craft wire. Wrap one end of the wire around the neck of a slumped glass bottle four times. Tuck the tip of the wire between the wrapped strands to secure the wire to the bottle.

Slide 4mm and 6mm glass beads alternately over the open end of the wire, to the wrapped section at the bottle neck. Leave 1 inch of wire open at the end.

Slide a top drilled crystal prism over the end of the wire. Fold the wire up as it exits the crystal and twist it together with the beaded strand. Slide the beads down to cover the twisted wire.

Wrap the beaded wire around the slumped glass bottle. Finish the wrap so that the crystal is positioned in the center of the bottle.

Press the beaded wire against the slumped glass to mold it to the bottle.

Cut a 12-inch length of 24-gauge wire. Fold the wire in half. Bend the fold to make a loop. Place one end of the wire against each side of the bottle neck, leaving a 2 inch loop above the bottle neck. Wrap the ends of the wire around the bottle neck to secure the hanger. Hang the garden art from a tree limb.

Sounds great. I'm not an arts and crafts person though (unfortunately) so I would love to see a picture of this.
